Take Responsibility – The First Step to a Happier Life

When we say, ‘Take Responsibility’, we mean in every aspect of yourself and your life – fully.

Are you ready to be accountable?

 Are you ready to accept and identify the role you played in any situation or circumstance of your life?

Let’s say that maybe you have felt that you were being taken advantage of by someone.

Did you willingly play the role of the victim maybe out of fear of being unloved or unaccepted?

Or did you willingly lend someone money because you felt bad for them, and you wanted to help because it eased your conscience or made you feel important?

Have you ever thought that maybe you receive your validation from helping others instead of from within yourself?

Maybe you need to stop trying to please people and you need to accept that you have been underselling yourself.

Wherever you find yourself unhappy in life, you need to look at it and ask yourself, “What choice or decision did I make to find myself here today?”

If you step back for a moment and do some contemplation, you’ll be surprised by how one simple choice can ripple over a long period of your life!

So now ask yourself, “How have I self-sabotaged and what life lesson can I draw from this experience?”

One thing you can learn to understand is that you don’t have to do everything in order to be valued.

Once you have found and unpacked the repeated pattern and lesson, you then need to figure out what needs to change in order to stop repeating this pattern.

Now that you are aware and conscious of the choices you have been making that have taken you on this path, you now know what behavioural changes need to be made in order to stop repeating the cycle.

How will you behave going forward?

What will you change?

What different choices will you make from now?

Are you ready to stop naming and blaming everything and everyone ‘out there’?

Are you ready to become a victor and take full responsibility for who you are and where you are at any given moment?

Once you realise that if you place your happiness in the hands of anything or anyone else, and that anything could disappear at the drop of a hat, you will no longer look outside of yourself for your happiness.

All you truly have is you. And if you can’t even make yourself happy, then how do you expect to set the example to others?

You have to learn to work permanently on self-improvement.

Here are 8 ways to work on yourself and raise your vibration:

  1. Mindfulness
  2. Live in the NOW
  3. Become conscious of the music or podcasts you listen too
  4. Declutter your home and work environment – ornaments, plants, pictures, clothes
  5. Be careful of what you watch on TV, social media. Clean up your feeds
  6. Consciously choose the company you keep – family, friends, colleagues
  7. Give to others – share in service
  8. Practise compassion and forgiveness instead of blame

We are all walking The Hero’s Journey in this life.

We need to go somewhere.

Along the way we make mistakes, get deceived and find mentors.

We encounter many trials and may want to give up but don’t.

And then we finally return transformed.

So just make the decision to make your journey EPIC!
